Eligibility and admission requirements

Eligibility

Article 16 of Royal Decree 1393/2007 of 29 October, modified by Royal Decree 861/2010, stipulates:

To be eligible for an official master’s degree programme, students must hold an official bachelor’s degree from a Spanish university or from a higher education institution belonging to another member state of the European Higher Education Area that enables access to master’s programmes.
Graduates from education systems outside the European Higher Education Area will be eligible for UJA programmes without validating their degrees once the university has checked that they have completed an equivalent level of training to the corresponding official bachelor’s degrees in Spain and that their degrees enable access to postgraduate study in the issuing country. Eligibility via this route in no way entails official validation of the applicant’s degree nor recognition of this degree for any purpose other than admission to UJA master’s programmes.

In accordance with Article 73 of Legislative Decree 1/2013 of 8 January approving the Consolidated Text of the Andalusian Universities Act, for the sole purpose of university admissions, all Andalusian public universities form a single district for bachelor’s and master’s study under an agreement between the universities and the Regional Department for Universities. This is to ensure that universities apply the same admission requirements and evaluation methods to all applicants. The admission procedure will be conducted by a technical committee from the Andalusian University Council, whose composition, duties and scope for action will be established by law.

No specific eligibility requirements or tests for admission to this programme have been set by the competent authority.
Admission to the university will be based on full respect for fundamental rights and the principles of equality, merit and ability. Equally, the principles of universal accessibility and design for all set out in Law 51/2003 of 2 December on equal opportunities, non-discrimination and universal access for disabled people will be taken into consideration.

Applicant profile

The recommended profile for admission to the Master’s Degree in Industrial Engineering is that of students who can show that they have acquired the skills taught in a degree with the characteristics described in Order CIN/311/2009 of 9 February: Electrical Engineering, Industrial Electronic Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Organisation Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Industrial Chemical Engineering, Industrial Technology Engineering, Textile Technology and Design Engineering, and Industrial Technology Engineering.

In addition, it is recommended that graduates with other qualifications relating to Industrial Technical Engineering are also admitted to the programme. In this case, graduates from these programmes would need to complete the necessary additional training depending on the skills acquired during their previous studies.

In this regard, the ideal applicant will possess the necessary prior training to take full advantage of the subjects taught during the master’s programme. It is recommended that applicants possess the following academic and personal skills and qualities:

Solid training in basic sciences, numerical and abstract reasoning, spatial vision, mathematical calculation.
Ability to tackle and resolve typical problems in Engineering.
Solid knowledge of Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Technical Drawing to ensure that students are able to make adequate progress on the master’s programme.
Critical reasoning. Ability to analyse and synthesise information. Decision-making skills.
High level of commitment and dedication to their studies, desire for personal development and consistency in their work, as well as creativity, ingenuity and observation skills.

Admission requirements

The general admission requirements for the Master’s Degree in Industrial Engineering are indicated in Section 4.2 of Order CIN/311/2009 of 9 February, which sets out the requirements for verifying official university degrees qualifying students to practise the Industrial Engineering profession:

Students who have acquired the skills set out in Section 3 of the Ministerial Order establishing the requirements for verifying official university degrees enabling the exercise of the profession of Industrial Technical Engineer and whose training is as described in Section 5 of the aforementioned Ministerial Order may be admitted to the Master’s Degree qualifying graduates to exercise the profession of Industrial Engineer.
Admission to the master’s degree will also be permitted when the student’s bachelor’s degree encompasses the basic training module and the common Engineering module, even if it does not cover a complete block of the specific technology module, as long as the student has obtained 48 credits from the blocks in this module as part of a bachelor’s degree qualifying them to practise Industrial Technical Engineering, in accordance with the aforementioned Ministerial Order.
Additionally, applicants in possession of any other bachelor’s degree may be admitted to the master’s programme, although they may be required to undertake any additional training deemed necessary.

These sections shall be understood without prejudice to the provisions of Article 17.2 and the fourth additional provision of Royal Decree 1393/2007 of 29 October.

Admission and selection

In line with Article 17 of Royal Decree 1393/2007 of 29 October, modified by Royal Decree 861/2010, all aspects relating to admission (admission criteria, organisation conducting the admission process and its composition, criteria for assessing merit and admission tests, etc.) are set annually by the Department of Economy, Innovation and Science of the Andalusian Regional Government via publication of the corresponding agreement approving and publicising the procedure for managing admission to master’s courses at public universities in Andalusia.

Admission criteria

Under the Andalusian Single District Agreement of 30 July 2014, the available places will be assigned on the basis of the following criteria:

Students from Industrial Engineering and the Bachelor’s Degrees in Electrical Engineering, Industrial Electronic Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Organisation Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Industrial Chemical Engineering, Industrial Technology Engineering, Textile Design and Technology Engineering.
Students from the Engineering Degrees in Industrial Design and Product Development, Electronics, Robotics, and Mechatronics Engineering, Energy Engineering, Materials Engineering, Electronic Systems Engineering. Graduates from these programmes will need to complete the necessary additional training depending on the skills acquired during their previous studies.
Students from Industrial Technical Engineering, specialising in Electricity, Industrial Electronics, Mechanics, Industrial Chemistry or Textiles. Graduates from these programmes will need to complete the necessary additional training depending on the skills acquired during their previous studies.
Graduates from other programmes. Graduates from these programmes will need to complete the necessary additional training depending on the skills acquired during their previous studies.

Candidates will be ordered within each group of preferred qualifications on the basis of their academic transcripts.

Once the candidates have been ordered according to the aforementioned assessment criteria, as many applicants as there are places will be admitted by strict order of preference. In the event of withdrawals, candidates who were not initially selected may be admitted by order of merit.

Pathways

The syllabus for the Master’s Degree in Industrial Engineering at the University of Jaén offers several different pathways. Depending on the student’s previous studies, they may need to complete additional training in order to be admitted to the master’s programme.

Students with a current Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Engineering
Students with an Industrial Technical Engineering qualification
Students with the Industrial Organisation Engineering qualification (Plan 99) from the University of Jaén
Students with other qualifications not listed above: the admission of students with other qualifications will be analysed by the academic committee for the master’s programme.

Additional training (where relevant)

All students holding qualifications allowing admission to the master’s programme must complete any subjects in the additional training module that they did not study during their previous qualifications.

The skills taught in the subjects in this module are in line with the skills in the Specific Technology Module in Ministerial Order CIN/351/2009, which sets out the official university qualifications qualifying graduates to exercise the profession of Industrial Technical Engineer.

The academic committee for the master’s programme will be responsible for establishing the additional training required of students who enter the programme with another qualification that does not meet the requirements of Order CIN/351/2009. This additional training will be based on the subjects taught on the undergraduate programmes at the University of Jaén.

Support and advice systems

The University of Jaén website is regularly updated with information of interest for new students. At the start of each academic year, the University of Jaén organises Welcome Days aimed at new students where they receive information about the following aspects:

In addition, before classes begin, the Higher Polytechnic School will organise a welcome session aimed at new students to introduce them to the resources, tools and materials offered by the University of Jaén and the master’s programme. They will also receive detailed information about specific aspects of the master’s course (lecturers, coordinators, content, timetables, methodologies, work schedules, materials, use of the virtual platform, teaching spaces, etc.).
Finally, the Higher Polytechnic School has a Subdirector for Students who is tasked with coordinating relations with the Student Council and the school’s cultural associations. The Sub-director for Students at EPS-Jaén is responsible for:

Liaising between the EPS management team and the students enrolled at the school. Providing students with personalised information and guidance to help them make decisions directly related to their curricular training or referring them to the team member best placed to address their queries and concerns.
Coordinating the necessary teaching mechanisms to facilitate the integration and social inclusion of students with special educational needs enrolled at EPS-Jaén.
Encouraging and promoting students’ participation in university life.
Helping students’ associations linked to the school to organise activities of interest to the overall development of the school’s students.
Organising and coordinating meetings and events directly related to the school’s students: Welcome Days, representatives’ meetings, scholarship awards ceremonies, etc.
Informing potential students who show an interest in applying to the school about our structure and the courses we offer, as well as answering any other queries or concerns they may have.
